I was pretty satisfied with my last illustration, something that usually doesn't happen, so here's a look at how it was made for anyone curious of such things:

I started by drawing a mess of swirls, not certain what I would do with them, but hoping I would come up with something along the way

Many uses of the paint bucket tool later...
At first the character was going to be a part of it, but I didn't like that. It was not looking right, and did not suit the person at all. This is just a rough version of what I was planning.

I recalled how I mentioned that she would work well as a retro animated character when I first met her. And that's a style I've been more and more interested in lately. So I started anew.

Getting there. I was happy with this. Although I found drawing in this style made the character look less distinctly like her; it could be a number of girls, but otherwise, I liked it.

Added texture to the figure

And then I worked the old background into it, added few other bits and pieces. All made using Flash, except the thread texture, that was added in Photoshop.

As richly chronicled in some 'friends only' entries, Melbourne life officially ended last night. Once it was confirmed I would be leaving, I packed my last couple of weeks with adventure in the great city of Melbourne. My new Perth animation job starts Monday.
Now it's time to get out of bed and start my new life.

I was on my way to visit Meg when I got the call about my new job in Perth. She gave me a list of her favorite places to see, which proved very helpful.

Work has continued taking up all my time. It got to the point where I was pretty ill. Real dizzy and faint-y whenever I got out of my seat. Recently the computer network could take no more and gave up, and we got a couple days off. The schedule was altered and since being back and a little rested, things have been going a bit better. 2 former workmates from Perth, the powerful animation couple of Tim and Rosie have joined us, and another workmate is back from Korea, so things should be getting easier finally. Still overtime, but less.

Hopefully I can start make my own art again. I still intend to finish the 5 images for the meme I posted at the start of the year.

My housemates sister wanted me to make an image to clients for the glasses frames place she works at:

A while ago I made an entry about making drawings for the first people to post comments. Here's one for Blake. Otherwise known as haze

Hm, Iv'e been reading old Grant Morrison comics again. I do like his "Doom Patrol".
Blake is actually a friend of mine who I met in 2006. Since then we've spent most of that time in other parts of the world. He currently lives in Korea and enjoys a celebrity lifestyle that comes from being a redhead there.
This is how the image first started out as.

Here's a slightly drunken drawing of my housemate who's suddenly moving out this week.

Last week I went to the "Summer Tones" music festival, which want from afternoon to late at night. 3 bands played at a time on different stages.

Dan Deacon was different. He is a DJ who played in the crowd (I stood on stage to see him), and interacted with the crowd a whole lot. At the end he got the entire crowd to make a giant human tunnel. 2 people arched their arms together and everyone had to go through. The tunnel led out to through the car park, back inside a different entrance, into the men's toilets and back to the floor area.

These guys were great fun live. There was a lot of crazy stuff happening on stage. A lot more than just these photos, but these are the ones that turned out ok.

Also in the next couple days I may see Grouper (a solo female singer/ambient artist), and Dan Deacon again. update: I don't think I'll go, feeling a bit sick.

twelve_cards makes zines every few months, and this is my contribution to his latest, movie based one.

After 2 months in a backpackers hostel I moved into a shared house yesterday. I think I will miss the hostel, it was pretty interesting there. Christmas was spoiled by having to share a room with the most horrible humans I have ever come across. Me and 2 others changed rooms Christmas day because of them. The hostel hosted some nice beach activities and lunch, but that night I asked someone to take a photo, and he broke my camera! No presents this year, apart from having to buy myself a new camera.

New years was better. I spent it with some guys in my then current room. We ended up on st. Kilda beach.

Back at work. Its been a fun first week back.

I spent the Christmas break looking for a new home, and I found one. Its not far from where I was, and very close to the train station, which is a big help getting to work.

The new of Montreal cd was delivered this morning. Its crazy dozen panel fold out packaging inspired me to draw this.

Saturday is the Northbridge festival. 3 of my comics will be sold at the 24 hour comics stall there!
